While most visitors to Miami hit the beach, our time in Miami can be divided into four parts; the Wynwood Arts District, Plant the Future, the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and exploring Miami coffee culture. The Wynwood Arts District is home to over 70 Art Galleries, retail stores, antique shops, eclectic bars, and one of the largest open-air street-art installations in the world. We enjoyed roaming its streets and finding graffiti art by world-renowned street artists.
We also enjoyed Plant the Future, an art and design gallery where the plants are the stars. Terrariums, desert gardens, orchid arrangements, air plants and a wide variety of cacti are among the items that can be found there. Plant The Future utilizes only live plants (no cut flowers) in its creations, offering a “green” alternative to traditional floral arrangements. We particularly loved their variety of fun and inspiring planters.
The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden was truly a unique experience. Here you can walk garden paths surrounded by multiple types of nature, talk to experts in horticulture, conservation and science, view impressive art, and see butterflies and birds at every turn. The new butterfly exhibit is simply amazing. We walked amongst a wide array of beautiful fluttering wings, but our favorite spot was where you could see the different stages of metamorphosis.
No trip to Miami is complete without a Cuban Coffee experience. On our visit to the city we frequented Versailles of Little Havana for our favorite smooth, sweet coffee and great atmosphere. We also made stops at The Oasis at Key Biscayne (for cute old men smoking cigars, drinking coffee and reading newspapers outside), Panther Coffee in Corado, and the Juice Palace for its awesome atmosphere and outdoor market. We even suggest stopping by Bread + Butter for awesome food, great modern décor and smooth coffee.
