Bangkok totally exceeded my expectations. I had been once before but on this visit I took the time to really experience some of the best the city has to offer. Our hotel—a beautiful little boutique hotel on the river called Loy La Long – was such a treat. It’s located close to Chinatown and inside the grounds of a temple! We loved eating at the street carts all along Chinatown and found it to be some of the best food of our whole trip.
Bangkok also provided some of the best shopping of our trip. I loved our day at Chatuchak Weekend Market (yes, you need a whole day!). They have some of the best selection of vintage clothes, handmade items from aspiring designers, household goods, pet goods—you name it and you can find it at Chatuchak.
We also spent some time on our last day exploring the markets around Chinatown. Bangkok is great because the modern subway system makes for a nice change after haggling with taxi drivers all throughout Southeast Asia. After a few weeks of backpacking, I highly recommend a luxury Thai massage for less than $20!
