Our two week trip to Southeast Asia was amazing—you’ve already read about our travels to Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok, but I have no words for how much we enjoyed Cambodia. During our time there, we enjoyed an indulgent and relaxing stay at the 4 Rivers floating resort – a hotel specializing in eco-tourism in the Cambodian countryside. The resort itself is beautiful and the cabin-tents come furnished with beds, hot water and tv (we loved staying up every night and watching movies in our tent!).
The excursions we did while at the 4 Rivers Resort were my favorite part of the entire trip. We were able to see and experience life in the Cambodian countryside in a way I never imagined. There were so many highlights but my most favorite experience was our excursion to the fishing village of Koh Sralao. As the rain came pouring down on our heads one of the families in the village invited us into their flat to escape. It was amazing to see into their lives for that moment and it left me believing the people of Cambodia are some of the friendliest in the world!
While in-country, we also spent a great deal of time in Siem Riep (the closest town to the ancient temples of Cambodia). There’s a reason everyone who goes to Cambodia goes here – it’s incredible to see in person something so large, intricate and ancient. It was almost as if we were stepping back in time. We rented bicycles from our hotel and rode them (about a 30 minute ride) to catch the absolutely perfect sunrise at Angkor Wat. While tuk-tuks (taxis) are available to travel around to temples, I found the pace of biking to be so refreshing and fun. I feel as though the bicycles really allowed us to see more and to truly take in our surroundings.
One of my favorite sites on our cycle tour was Ta Prohm where the ancient trees intertwine so beautifully with the ruins.
