In the south of Bali, near Jumbaran and Uluwatu, rest a number of wonderful accommodations. From private villas on cliffs overlooking the beach to large scale resorts like the Ayana, pictured below, luxury isn’t hard to find.
After you’ve taken time to lounge on the beach (or at your private pool), had a few massages and taken in the calm vibes of the island, you may want to plan an evening visit to Uluwatu Temple. At sunset Uluwatu is magical and if your visit is timed correctly you’ll be able to see a traditional Balinese dance performance right on the cliffs. The monkeys at the temple are fairly friendly, but watch your belongings (like sunglasses and cameras) as these furry creatures tend to snatch items right from your bag!
Tanah Lot is Northwest of Seminyak and is also a wonderful temple to visit at sunset. Set off the coast, this awe-inspiring location allows guests to spend time playing at the beach while still visiting a sacred temple. If you want to avoid some of the crowds, planning a visit during the day is just as nice.
As far as beaches in the south go Padang Padang Beach is secluded and mostly visited by people in the know. Jimbaran is also a slower paced beach than the touristy Kuta and it’s here where you’ll be able to eat an affordable and relaxed dinner right on the sand. You can even pick out your own seafood to be cooked on the spot for your meal! Seminyak beach is a bit more upscale but also has some great upbeat spots for drinks and dinner. KU DE TA is a well-known hotspot with fantastic views for sunset and a nice lounge vibe. If you arrive about an hour before dusk you can typically get a front row seat for sunset and cocktails.
