Kennebunkport is a beautiful and charming oceanfront destination located in southern Maine. I had the pleasure of visiting this peaceful, dog-friendly town for a summer weekend in July and every bit of it was a vision straight from a postcard. Gorgeous old Victorian homes and vintage memorabilia are nestled downtown along with a great shopping district and a handful of tasty restaurants. The Clam Shack is legendary for their lobster rolls and it’s for good reason! The Shack had me coming back daily and I still wanted more (they offer other delicious seafood options as well). It pays to explore around each corner because one may discover a hidden gem like Aunt Marie’s ice cream stand (I had two scoops of Moose Tracks, some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had in my life). A walk or drive down Ocean Avenue leads to the gorgeous Arundel Yacht Club, perfect for boat watching and gawking (and also harboring a particular ex-President’s boat!).
We stayed at the historic Colony Hotel located where the Kennebunk River meets the Atlantic Ocean. The hotel has amazing grounds and views, all topped off with an elevated heated saltwater swimming pool overlooking the ocean. Guests can even enjoy a healthy breakfast buffet daily on the porch. A highlight of the meal is their fresh blueberry pancakes made from scratch and with locally grown berries! The weather here is ideal in July. Enjoy the warm summer sun on your skin during the daytime and a nice cool breeze through open windows in the evening. I can’t wait to return to soak in more of Kennebunkport’s beauty, all the while eating a lot more lobster!
